Dr. Emily DeJong, PhD, LMFT
Executive Director | Counselor
Emily has served Christian Counseling of Mid Michigan since its inception in 2008. She completed her Masters of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy at Northwestern University and her PhD at Northcentral University. She appreciates the challenge today’s society creates for couples, families and individuals working to have healthy and thriving relationships. In her counseling work, she encounters each family member at their point of vulnerability and helps the entire family find their strengths and work toward a relational cohesiveness.
Emily specializes in working with couples, troubled adolescents and their families, college students and parenting related issues. She is also trained in the nationally recognized Prepare/Enrich assessment program and enjoys helping engaged couples prepare for a successful future together.

Dr. Joan Hornak, EdD, LP, LPC
Supervising Consultant
Joan joined our team in 2014. She retired from the faculty of the Counselor Education Program at CMU where she taught and trained professional counselors. Furthermore, she counseled students at the CMU Counseling Center for many years. While at CMU, Dr. Hornak received not one but three prestigious Excellence in Teaching Awards “… for her respect for students, her integrity, her professionalism, and a vast knowledge of her field.” She also served two terms as chair of the Michigan Licensure Board for Professional Counselors.
Joan has a particular interest in the issues women face throughout their lifespan. She cares deeply about the needs of adolescent girls and the influences that shape their emotional, spiritual, and cognitive development. As a counselor in private practice and in a psychiatric hospital setting, she worked with a broad range of client issues.
Ryan Huber, MA, LPC
Counselor
Ryan believes in building a strong rapport and trust with clients as he works to help them reach their counseling goals. He enjoys working with youth, helping them to overcome the challenges they face in today’s world to become strong, confident individuals both now and throughout the rest of their lives.
Ryan prefers to use both CBT and REBT to help his clients, and their families, identify and cope with challenges, as well as to provide a framework from which to build confidence to overcome difficult situations.
He completed his undergraduate work at Alma College prior to receiving a Master’s degree in counseling from CMU, and values the unique aspect that incorporating faith into the counseling process provides.
Brant Piper, M.Div., MA, LLPC
Counselor
Brant has been an ordained pastor in the Presbyterian Church, USA for over 30 years and has provided pastoral counseling in a variety of settings prior to moving to Michigan. He graduated with his Master’s in Counseling from Central Michigan University with the goal of continuing to counsel individuals after his retirement from full-time pastoring.
He is passionate about working with individuals, couples, and adolescents, facilitating the clients’ strengths and spiritual resources, if they so choose, in creating for themselves lives full of meaningful relationships and purpose. He is also deeply dedicated to partnering with pastors in the care of themselves, their marriages, their families, and their congregations.
Mary Jane Blackmer, LLPC
Counselor
Mary Jane has a deep passion for working with children, adolescents, and their parents and is dedicated to helping them develop positive mental health and valuable coping skills as they traverse the life challenges they face. With over 30 years of experience in the Special Education field, Mary Jane has collected valuable knowledge in how to secure appropriate educational assistance for students, as well as tools and techniques that will help children struggling with mental health as they maneuver their school environment.
With degrees in both Special Education and Professional Counseling from Central Michigan University, Mary Jane is dedicated to helping those who are struggling with cognitive deficits, ADD/ADHD, behavioral issues, anxiety and depression, abuse, learning difficulties, parenting struggles, and much more. Her care and compassion are evident and her desire to give her clients hope for their future remains her constant focus.
Yolanda Allen, LLPC
Counselor
Yolanda has been serving with CCMM since 2020 and is passionate about what faith-based mental health offers to individuals struggling with the challenges of life. Seeing the need for more Christian counseling in central Michigan, Yolanda was moved to pursue a counseling degree to help meet the demand.
Yolanda graduated from Liberty University and is dedicated to incorporating faith into healing as she works with young adults, individuals, and couples who are struggling with anxiety, depression, life adjustments, blended families, and grief. Through the counseling process Yolanda works to grow hopefulness in the lives of her clients so that they can face their futures with the potential for living with great joy.
Jacob Roach
Counseling Intern
Jacob has joined CCMM to complete his internship for a Master’s in Professional Counseling from Divine Mercy University. Jacob is drawn to helping individuals, couples, and adolescents overcome the challenges they face in their lives by incorporating their strengths, faith, and support system. He is actively engaged in his home parish of St. Mary’s/St. Paul’s Catholic Church and feels called to help clients see their faith as a valuable part of their healing and growth.
Through the counseling process, hope is possible and Jacob looks forward to renewing that hope in the lives of those he works with.
Betsy Cervantes
Business Manager
Betsy joined our team in 2023. She completed her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration at Ferris State University in 2020, and has worked with non-profit, Christian organizations for over a decade. Growing up overseas as a missionary kid instilled in her a passion for helping and loving others, and she has participated in numerous mission trips in her adult life. Her ongoing desire to help others has brought her to CCMM with a passion for using her business degree to expand an already amazing organization.
She serves in various volunteer capacities in the Mid Michigan area and looks forward to serving the Mt. Pleasant community.
Jessica Vinciguerra
Receptionist
Jessica was excited to join our team in 2025 as the warm and welcoming face you see when you enter our building. Her desire is to help our clients in any way she can from scheduling appointments, answering questions about services, paying their bills, or referring a friend. She will go above and beyond to ensure that the office is running smoothly and everyone from counselor to client has what they need.
When not doing a spectacular job at our front desk, Jessica loves all things music. Jessica graduated with a Music degree, is a gifted pianist, plays the organ at a local church, and offers piano lessons to aspiring musicians. She is excited to serve with the CCMM team.
