Dr. Emily DeJong, PhD, LMFT
Executive Director | Counselor
Emily has served Christian Counseling of Mid Michigan since its inception in 2008. She completed her Masters of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy at Northwestern University and her PhD at Northcentral University. She appreciates the challenge today’s society creates for couples, families and individuals working to have healthy and thriving relationships. In her counseling work, she encounters each family member at their point of vulnerability and helps the entire family find their strengths and work toward a relational cohesiveness.
Emily specializes in working with couples, troubled adolescents and their families, college students and parenting related issues. She is also trained in the nationally recognized Prepare/Enrich assessment program and enjoys helping engaged couples prepare for a successful future together.

Duane Ellis, MA, LPC
Counselor
Those who seek counseling assistance often face difficult life situations that cause emotional wounds, pain, and loss of hope. As a counselor, Duane comes alongside clients to help them understand the source of the issues that they face, help them identify solutions to their problems, and to encourage them in their efforts. Reestablishing a sense of hope is a major factor in this healing process. Duane’s therapeutic approach represents an integration of several approaches including, Cognitive, Behavioral, and Rational Emotive Behavior Theories with Christian beliefs and values. These cognitive/behavioral approaches focus on core personal beliefs, thought processes, individual responsibility, education, and behavioral modification.
As a Christian therapist, it is Duane’s goal to establish a caring, sensitive, and trusting relationship with every client. He strives to be a person of integrity with loving concern for his clients.

Dr. Joan Hornak, EdD, LP, LPC
Counselor
Joan joined our team in 2014. She retired from the faculty of the Counselor Education Program at CMU where she taught and trained professional counselors. Furthermore, she counseled students at the CMU Counseling Center for many years. While at CMU, Dr. Hornak received not one but three prestigious Excellence in Teaching Awards “… for her respect for students, her integrity, her professionalism, and a vast knowledge of her field.” She also served two terms as chair of the Michigan Licensure Board for Professional Counselors.
Joan has a particular interest in the issues women face throughout their lifespan. She cares deeply about the needs of adolescent girls and the influences that shape their emotional, spiritual, and cognitive development. As a counselor in private practice and in a psychiatric hospital setting, she worked with a broad range of client issues.

Ryan Huber, MA, LLPC
Counselor
Ryan believes in building a strong rapport and trust with clients as he works to help them reach their counseling goals. He enjoys working with youth, helping them to overcome the challenges they face in today’s world to become strong, confident individuals both now and throughout the rest of their lives.
Ryan prefers to use both CBT and REBT to help his clients, and their families, identify and cope with challenges, as well as to provide a framework from which to build confidence to overcome difficult situations.
He completed his undergraduate work at Alma College prior to receiving a Master’s degree in counseling from CMU, and values the unique aspect that incorporating faith into the counseling process provides.

Donna Kriss, MA, LPC
Counselor
Donna has experience in a wide variety of fields before joining CCMM to focus on providing mental health services. She has worked as a Direct Care Worker, Field Agent for Parole Probation, Foster Care/Adoptive Recruiter, Elder Care Provider, and a court-directed Child/Parent Visit Supervisor.
She has an eclectic approach to counseling which focuses on Person-Centered and CBT approaches. Donna is active in numerous volunteer capacities within the Mid Michigan area and is passionate about helping people from a faith perspective.
Donna works with children, adults, marriages, and whole family units to help create permanent change that will help them both now and into the future.

Bradley Hebert, MA, LLPC
Counselor
Brad is currently a student at Liberty University and is working to complete his Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Brad completed his undergraduate degree with Central Michigan University and served 3 years with the United States Army before embarking on his master’s degree in mental health.
Brad is interested in helping a wide variety of clients, from children to adults, individuals to couples, and believes everyone deserves an opportunity to improve their mental health. He is passionate about the difference that faith makes in people’s lives and the value of including it in the counseling experience.

Brant Piper, M.Div, MA, Student
Counseling Intern
Brant has been an ordained pastor in the Presbyterian Church, USA for over 30 years and has provided pastoral counseling in a variety of settings. He is currently a student at Central Michigan University where he is working to complete his master’s in counseling.
He is interested in working with individuals, couples, and adolescents, facilitating the clients’ strengths and spiritual resources, if they so choose, in creating for themselves lives full of meaningful relationships and purpose.

Jan Randolph & Yolanda Allen
Office Managers
Jan joined our team in 2017 and Yolanda in 2020 as the smiling faces you see when you enter our waiting area. They are the people who answer our phone and will be happy to answer any questions you have regarding our services or fees. They are passionate about taking care of people and are excited about the opportunity to keep the business office end of the organization running smoothly so that every client who walks through our door knows that they are being well taken care of.
